Development of digital elevation models for hydrologic modeling purposes for large river basins in Suriname

The purpose of this research is to develop hydrologically correct digital elevation models DEMs for three large river basins in Suriname using ArcGIS ArcMap. The Kabalebo, the Upper Suriname and Tapanahony River basins in Suriname are used as study areas. Visual methods are used to select the best DEM that can be used for hydrological modeling purposes. The results have shown that the DEMs with a resolution of 50 m and 100 m are much more suitable for hydrologic modeling purposes. It was also concluded that the quality and resolution of the DEMs are of much more importance than for example the computational resources and time.
